He finally said it right!

Josiah has been awesome with language. Since shortly before he turned 1 he's been picking up words. I was going to teach him sign language, but by the time he had the motor skills to do it he was already saying the words.

He is quite the talker and people say that he talks really really well for a boy his age. I can understand most everything he says and he learns words so quickly that he will reapeat them perfectly the first time you ask him.

There are a few words he just can't say though. It's as if he learned them wrong in the beginning and is having a hard time changing the way he says them. One such word is 'eggs.' He's never said them right he calls them "gung gung" only he rolls his tongue with the 'g'. He has been able to say 'eggs' when it's attatched to another word. For instance he could say "eggbake" and "eggbeater" perfectly. But when you asked him to say 'egg' he would promptly say "gung gung." Today he said it right! We were eating eggs for breakfast and he said he was done I told him to eat two more eggs and he said "two eggs" perfectly. I cheered, I clapped, I said "yay you said it right!!!" He was so excited that he said "egg" again. Again I cheered and made a big deal out of it. He then said "gung gung" and I said "noooo" and he said "egg" again (he was teasing me). I think he's got it down. He knows the right way to say it. I just need to keep reinforcing the correct way of saying it to make sure he remembers.

Now we just have to work on the other words he says wrong. "Screw", "Screwdriver", and "stool" are all words that he says inside his mouth. He says "sintas" when he wants to brush his teeth, I'm not sure if that's the word for toothbrush or if it means brushing teeth. And "Thank you" has always been "gokum" or "gokabum". "Chocolate chip" sounds very much like his word for thank you.

I'm pretty pleased with how he picked up the word "egg" correctly today, so I'm pretty sure it won't be long before he's saying the other ones correctly.
