It has been way to long since I've posted something. I guess that's a testiment to how busy a modern housewife and mother really is. A lot has happened since May. I can finally say that I'm happy with my job. Josiah is walking now, a very good walker who only falls when he goes to fast or trips on something. It was amazing to watch him progress. He pulled up onto furniture very early on it seemed, but after numerous falls was just too scared to venture out on his own. But two weeks before his first birthday he decided to take the step of faith and hasn't looked back since.
Having him walking has made my life so much easier. He can entertain himself now. He will go to the room that he wants to be in, he will go to the toybox and take out what he wants to play with and if for some reason I am busy doing something he can follow me around instead of just sitting there crying for me to hold him. Actually holding him is pritnear impossible now unless he's unusually crabby. The only way I can really get him to sit on the couch with me and cuddle is to eat a snack. Then he is content to sit there and munch away.
He is also sleeping better now. He's slept through the night since he was at least 4 months old, however getting him to sleep was always a challenge. We would fight for hours it seemed to get him to go to sleep for both naps and bedtime. I don't know if he's just finally gotten used to things or if it's because I finally gave up on the morning nap. Now I will hold him and sing a song to him and for naps he's out cold before the song is over. At bedtime Luke will hold him and sing maybe a half a song to him and then lay him down awake and kiss him goodnight. He usually falls asleep within 15min. without crying or fussing a bit. It's heaven.
Josiah is also begining to talk. He can say quite a few nouns. Including "rock," "ball," and "cup." He can also communicate what he wants by saying "more," "done," and "gone." This has also made things easier. We still have small tantrums when he doesn't get what he wants, but the frustration has lessened since he can tell me a little of what he wants.
So things are finally going well, I'm finally enjoying being a mother and I have no real complaints. One would think I would just sit back and enjoy this time in my child's life. But I apparently don't like to make things easy for myself. Instead of just enjoying motherhood I have decided to start potty training. Oh man, I did not know what I was getting myself into. The first week was pure frustration for me. I could not get that little man to go in the potty no matter what. It only took a couple of days for him to realize that he had to tell me when he had peed, and only a couple more days and he was telling me before he peed. But every time I put him on the potty he would just sit there and then after 5 or 10 minutes would say "done" and try to jump off. I was discouraged, frustrated, angry and kicking myself for taking on such a big task at such a young age. But towards the end of the second weeks it clicked for him. He started telling me he had to pee and would pee when he was put on the potty. Hurray!
