Getting to be a big boy

Josiah spent last weekend with his grandparents at the farm in North Dakota. I mean he spent the weekend alone with them. 3 entire days. Me and Luke got to spend the weekend alone at a "cabin." By cabin I mean a really fancy condo with "rustic" decor. It was nice to have some time alone. We were able to talk some things through, get some rest, play a little and become reconnected with each other. But we missed our little boy.

In the meantime Josiah was with his grandparents planting a garden, riding 4-wheeler, driving the tractor, playing with puppies and digging. He had a blast with them and he didn't miss us one bit. When I got there to pick him up he excitedly showed me all of the toys he'd been playing with, but didn't seem any more excited to see me than if I had just gone to the grocery store (actually I've had more excited reactions coming back from the store). This made me both happy and sad. I was hoping he'd missed me as much as I missed him, but I was so happy that he was able to be left alone for a weekend without any worries.

I noticed, however, that in those three days he grew up significantly. The first thing I noticed is that he had gotten taller. I know that seems impossible, but my husband agrees that after that weekend he does seem much taller than before. The second thing I noticed was some independence he had gained. He learned how to pull his pants down by himself (something we had been working on to help with potty breaks) and he started "singing" songs that we'd been singing to him for a while.

And although he had already mastered going to bed on his own before this it seemed to go much smoother after his little vacation. He probably got used to things not always being the way he expected. Many words he says MUCH clearer now, but he's also speaking a lot of gibberish as if he has way more to say now than he knows how to express.

I'm so happy to see how he's growing and changing and developing, but it makes me sad that my baby is not a baby anymore.

(videos were taken with Luke's cell phone so sound quality is not too great, I'll try to get videos with my camera sometime)
